The Apalachee High School football team will be set to go full speed when preseason practice begins Monday.
Coach Shane Davis and his Wildcats return to the practice field next week as the countdown to the new season begins to reach its final stages. AHS, who will host a preseason scrimmage Aug. 21 against Westminster, will begin full contact work next week.
“We have been pleased with the good summer we’ve had,” Davis said. “Our kids have worked hard. Now it’s time to get rolling.”
With little time remaining before the Aug. 28 season opener at home against region foe Monroe Area, Davis is looking to “hit the ground running.”
“You almost have to,” the coach said. “Games start so early now. We only have two full weeks before our scrimmage.”
Like their counterparts across the state, the AHS coaching and training staff will be keeping a watchful eye on players as they work in the heat.
“We have a heat and humidity index that pretty much dictates what we can and can’t do for practice,” Davis said.
