Barrow County’s government no longer has a chief financial officer.
Following more than two hours of closed-door negotiations at a called meeting of the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, the commission tonight in a brief open session voted 3-2 to accept the resignation of Beth Horacek and to authorize county Chairman Danny Yearwood to execute a "resignation agreement."
Commissioners Eva Elder and Steve Worley voted no, apparently opposing the agreement that was negotiated.
Both Elder and Worley refused to disclose their reasons, saying they had been told not to comment.
Commissioners Larry Joe Wilburn, Isaiah Berry and Billy Parks voted in favor of the motion. Commissioner Ben Hendrix did not attend the meeting because he is out of town.
Horacek, who has been on vacation this week, did not attend the meeting, but her attorney, Bill Healan Jr., represented her in the talks and consulted with her by phone.
Healan said Horacek will return home Saturday and the agreement will be signed Monday, but that she will not return to work for the county.
But sadly, I think old Danny Boy will try to act as CFO along with every other hat he's trying to wear. The man is a flipping idiot.
Get rid of the people who need (needed) to be let go, but bring in others.
And for those of you who don't read the paper copy -- Danny Boy and old Norma Jean decided between the two of themselves who should be the new fire chief. What's wrong with that picture?
Does she have an accounting degree? AA, BA, Masters?
Does she have ANY certifications?

We really need for the commissioner to follow protocol on procedures because those do apply to him as well as Ms Brown and everyone else.
I think the whole board should have been able to know the facts before positions were filled in recent days.
Government is not a make-up-the-rules-as-you-go and answer questions later.
Mr Chairman, if all citizens of our nation did what it looks like is going on at the Barrow County Board of Commissioners, we'd be accused of anarchy and arrested.
Please be mindful of your actions because you are setting a precedence for future generations of leaders. Someone needs to be setting good examples instead of all the (for me) examples. We see enough of that everyday in the media.
Please be above that fall line and step up to the plate for the future of Barrow County.
Amen to Mr. Healan, where did Mr. Thornton get his wealth of knowledge and experience on his opinions. Mrs Horacek was ambushed by you Mr. Thronton and The Board of Commissioners, shame on you all. She was only doing what she has been told to do.
Last Mr. Yearwood, you have NOT help Barrow,
just to make it worse along with your 3 little
children Worley,Elder and Wilburn.
