I know this assessment is not correct! Homes in my neighborhood have sold for more than my house is assessed and they are smaller than my home.

Please keep in mind folks, apprasied tax value is a percent of perceved actual value. Actual price point is determined from a real estate apprasial. In my opinion, I would like my tax apprasial to drop even more as my property taxes come from that number.

Fred, I am so with you on this. I was surprised to see that my apprasial decreased. Without the Homeowner’s Tax Relief Grant this year and until the state revnue grows by 3% our taxes will increase. Several local counties have increased property values and increased millage rates never taking the current real estate market into consideration.
You are correct but how is it that some get an increase and some a decrease? And how can the county stand behind these substantial decreases that when taxed provide less revenue for the already cash strapped county? It doesn't make sense. Though it may not affect us all within the next year, those higher appraisals will start to decrease in time if the tax assessment continues to fall.

I agree with Mr. Sandford. Actual pricing should come from an independent appraisal. I had an appraisal in January and it came in at $138,000.

This won't affect me at all negatively, except that I will likely pay less in taxes. The true worth of my house is provided by both a) real-estate valuation; and b) a licensed appraiser.

I am not sure where these people get these values from but it again is a farse. My house and property was assessed three years ago at 179,000 by a private assessor. things lioke this is not helping me as a home owner and surely it is not helping the city or county of Barrow.
Just wait... Lower property tax assessments will equal higher millage rates.
Before it's over with, we'll all probably be paying a higher tax bill next year.
I like having my property value low for tax purposes. County tax values DO NOT REFLECT a homes true value, so don't sweat the decrease. And yes wondering, I too would like to know the formula used -- seeing that I GOT an INCREASE

I'm a first time home buyer and I don't really understand what all this means. Should it be lower/higher? How do they come up with this $ amount. How do I know if I should challenge and why would I be challenging? Thanks
I agree with the other poster that our millage rates will probably increase.

I realize that there is a decrease in my property value but with 2 homes selling between $95,000 and $100,000 in my 4 year old neighborhood you would think it would have dropped even more. I honestly dont understand how the figures are determined. Maybe it is time to find out.

Good for them.
Memo to BC Commissioners: A millage rate increase is a TAX INCREASE. Don't give me the line about values going down. No one volunteered to decrease the millage rate when values were going up so we got annual back door tax increases.

Of course the millage will go up to compensate fo the lower appraised value. You don't get anything for free.
