As parents get ready to send their children back to school in Barrow County, some ask, “how good is my child’s school?”
There’s no easy way to answer that question given the complex interaction of academic, social and extracurricular issues that make up the overall school environment.
But an analysis done by the Barrow Journal of academic performance from last Spring’s CRCT tests indicate that while some local elementary and middle schools are doing OK, others have a ways to go to be competitive with their peers in Barrow and surrounding counties.
A look at CRCT results in grades 3,5 and 8 in Barrow County indicates that generally speaking, students are doing fairly well in Reading across all schools and grade levels. In addition, local students improved their Math performance from the year before, especially in grades 5 and 8.
But that overall picture doesn’t reflect some sharp contrasts between local schools where results were sometimes significantly different from school to school.
