A Gwinnett County sheriff’s deputy was killed in a wreck Monday afternoon as he traveled to his Barrow County home on a motorcycle.
The Georgia State Patrol identified the deputy as 56-year-old Bill Edge.
The accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Bowman Mill Road in the southeastern part of Barrow County.
A spokesman for the state patrol said a truck ran a stop sign and struck another truck that then struck the deputy’s motorcycle.
No other information was available early Tuesday from the state patrol.
Stacey Bourbonnais, a spokesperson for the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office, said Edge had worked in the technical services unit of the sheriff’s office for about 4.5 years.
“When people had a computer problem, they really wanted to go to Bill because of his personality and how great he was with our employees,” Bourbonnais said. “Everyone who knew him just loved him.”
She said the sheriff’s employees were shocked by his death.
“There’s a lot of grief,” she said. “He is going to be very, very missed in this department.”
Edge is survived by his wife and two adult children.
