For a brief moment last week, Barrow officials thought their sales tax revenues had taken a dramatic turn for the better. But further investigation of why the county got two sales tax checks from the state this month revealed that all counties got two checks.
The Georgia Department of Revenue had moved to a new system of accounting, which required a one-time adjustment across the state. That adjustment skewed the May checks for March sales taxes upward, perhaps in part to make up for some missed funds in February when the state was making the transition.
Barrow officials had been anxiously awaiting the May sales tax receipts to see what the impact of the new Barrow Crossing retail center would be. But now, officials will have to wait another month or two to have a more accurate comparison of its sales tax income.

Pats comments reflect those of a "Predictable Liberal Tool"
Barrow county will pull through this just fine. It just requires a little self-detirmination, self discipline and some common sense.
Seems to me that Pat is willing to let Obama "the messiah" come and save the day. Good luck with that,,LOL.
My guess is, that Pat, Does not pay taxes and has been a burden to taxpayers for a number of years. You know, those who feel they are entitled to the fruits of others labor.
Just my opinion.
[Whiskey Pete, obviously proud of being a drunkard.]
First of all Pat, “Whiskey Pete” is nothing more than a sobriquet that I use for blogging. That’s all, nothing more.
Pat wrote: [his sarcastic reference to Obama as "the Messiah" shows more about his narrow-minded partisanship than it does about the Real Universe.]
Well Pat, that was in response to your : [Barrow should appeal to Obama for help.] Pat would have us believe that PEBO has all the answers.
I believe that the good folks of Barrow county are strong enough and smart enough (except for Pat) to come through this economic downturn without the aid and interference from the Feds. A tax increase seems to be inevitable, If that’s what it takes to continue the essential services of the county, then so be it. I don’t like, it but my family will survive.
So with that said,
I would like to address Pats unambiguous hate for all things conservative. While Pat and his ilk are stockpiling hate and anger: in the “Real Universe”. (Code word: for mom’s basement).
The rest of the good, and true folk will be sharpening job skills, and taking classes, and planting gardens, and just “taking care business” as usual.
Just my opinion.
