In other business, Phil Eberly of W.K. Dickson updated the Authority regarding the runway 5/23 overlay project. Eberly said the project will begin once the Department of Transportation approves the contract and releases the funds. Eberly expects the contract to be approved within the next thirty days.
Airport Director Glen Boyd updated the Authority regarding several issues, including corporate site visits. Boyd said several prospects continue to show interest in constructing hangars at the airport.
“Hopefully we will see some of them coming to fruition,” Boyd said. “We’re getting a lot of interest a lot of inquiries.”
Boyd also announced that he had met with the City Of Winder regarding the water supply for upcoming hangar projects. The city is reviewing the site drawings and researching the current capacity at the site, he said.
Other issues discussed at the April 15 meeting were:
--the March 2008 financial report. The Northeast Georgia Regional Airport reported a net loss of $4,800 for the month.
--a March incident in which a horse made its way onto airport grounds. The horse and its owner were eventually reunited.
--Boyd’s effort to obtain an update from the FAA project manager and consultant in charge of the ILS project. Boyd said the project manager will be sending an update as soon as possible.
-- a recent meeting with the Georgia Centers of Aerospace Innovation. Boyd said the center would help the airport “isolate and develop good prospective members of its aviation based community.”
$2 million line of credit
The Barrow County Airport Authority held a special meeting April 1 to approve a line of credit for upcoming projects at the Northeast Georgia Regional Airport.
The $2 million line of credit from the Peoples Bank will fund several projects, including hangar construction, grading for the ILS (instrument landing system), land acquisition and possibly removing houses.
The 20-year, 3.5 percent loan will be secured by rent consignments.
The authority also approved a short-term loan of $250,000 to fund acquisition of the remaining land needed for the ILS project. The short-term loan will be repaid once the line of credit is in place.
