The perpetrator of this despicable crime was in possession of three ounces of dried marijuana and was allegedly going to sell the products of the 78 marijuana plants that the deputies recovered at the residence.
According to the authorities, each of those 78 plants, when fully grown, could have produced approximately one pound of marijuana. Think of the economic stimulus that the projected $85,000 worth of pot could have on our local community.
Seriously, while I do not condone the use of marijuana, alcohol or narcotics, I do not see a victim in this activity.
Whose civil rights did this citizen violate by cultivating a native plant? Was anyone’s right to property, life or freedom denied?
Barrow County is going to spend much needed tax dollars to prosecute Mr. Jones for a victimless crime.
During a time when county revenues are at a record low, can the expenditure of our tax dollars be justified in the prosecution and incarceration of non-violent drug offences?
Sincerely
Jeffrey E. Moss

Well said Paula.
Your logic just doesnt make sense...
Get the drugs and the criminals that provide it off the street!Tax money well spent!
bible-thumping idiot. And, BTW, just for the record: I don't smoke cigarettes, guzzle booze or puff pot.
I just live in the real world.
Finally, ever heard of Vincent T. Bugliosi? He's hardly a hippie dope fiend -- and he says the fact that marijuana is illegal is absurd.
So, according to greg the maroon, it makes you an "extreme radical leftist" if you think the so-called "war on drugs" is stupid.
Ever heard of William F. Buckley?
He supported the legalization of drugs.
Do you categorize him an an "extreme radical leftist"?
At least dope fiends have an excuse for being stupid, but some people here must be genetically defective.
Hilarious how bible-thumpers are at odds with material contained in their own Holy Book.
And, still I'd like to know Mrs. Cain came from.
Do you have children or grandchildren? What if this man gave or sold this stuff to one of them? Some how this stuff would get out on to the "street"!! What if your child or grandchild smoked that crap & got into a car wreck & were killed or killed someone! Mr. Moss,,, pull your head out of your butt and wake up! It is against the LAW! I am PROUD of the Barrow County Deputies! & Yes my tax paying dollars do pay their paychecks!
Children can't drive cars; they can't purchase alcohol, either.
Who suggested that marijuana be made available to infants, i.e., those who are non sui juris?
And, yes, it's against the law, so it follows that deputies are doing their duty by enforcing same.
Keen grasp of the obvious there.
The original point here is that it should not be illegal.
Laws prohibiting what people want to do have never worked. This desire by some to foist their views & practices is usually motivated by their "religious beliefs." And, that's just wrong.
The bottom line is, it doesn't matter if you think it should be legal or illegal. It IS currently illegal and he broke the law and should have to pay for it. Period.
What is the definition of wine, BTW?
Please tell me the source of your "research"?
Please tell me what you think "wine" is?
Let me help you on some chemical facts in the real world.
(I know this is going to confuse you, it being all scientific truth and all.)
Wine is an ancient beverage.
Consumption stemmed from its being a potable beverage (safe drinking water being sometimes hard to find).
You get wine by letting grapes rot.
Alcohol forms naturally during fermentation.
(I know that part just kill the self-righteous bible-thumper in you.)
Do you understand this?
When grapes rot, alcohol is a natural byproduct.
This fermented grape juice is commonly called wine.
So, unless Jesus miracled the alcohol out of the wine, what he had and drank almost certainly contained a % of alcohol.
No coincidence that the ignorant fairy-tale crowd are also the ones dead set against the decriminalization of marijuana.
And, BTW, for the record, I do not and have never consumed either booze or pot.
David, you lost a few brain cells too,not just you,Everyone who smokes pot ends up with a duh mind
Joyce,it is always unjust when it is OUR family member is punished.
David,it wasn't barrow county that broke the law...you did
good observation dani
By the way Savant, A 14 and 15 y/o stole my friends car, got drunk, and crashed it at 100 miles per hour. Fortunately for them they weren't hurt. However the car is gone. Neither one had a license and they bought the alcohol themselves. Since neither one had insurance my friend had to pay for her car and her insurance their bills. And this scenario is common, just read the paper.
Marijuana (hemp) was at one time a major agricultural crop of the USA and has a multitude of uses including being a wonderful clothing fiber. Always remember the scene from the Wizard of OZ where the "Wizard" gets found out and shouts out "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain". As long as we continue to let ourselves be distracted by fighting and arguing among ourselves over fantasy "religions" and so called drug wars, etc. etc. then we will remain in the control of others who benefit from our ignorance. It simply allows easier control of the population as a whole. Wake up! or simply remain a part of the mindless masses that swallow religious drivel and government nonsense that mandate how we must live our lives.
It is illegal and the man broke the law plain and simple! He should be punished the same as anyone who breaks the law.
It you feel there was no crime and Pot should be legal write your senators and congressmen!
marijuana from the equation and the whole drug war will collapse.
The so-called war on drugs is a huge industry and huge bureaucracy.
Victory in the drug war is not possible, nor is it the goal. Victory
in the drug war would mean that the drug war industry and bureaucracy
are out of business.
There are basically two kinds of people who support the so-called war on
drugs:
Those who make their livelihood from it. This includes politicians and
bureaucrats who are probably on the payroll of the drug cartels. Al
Capone had hundreds of politicians and prohibition officials on his
payroll.
Suckers - taxpayers who have bought into the lies and propaganda of the
drug-war industry and bureaucracy.
Suckers - who are willing to deny liberty and freedom to others but
think that their own liberty and freedom will never be in jeopardy.
Suckers - who believe that criminalizing a substance will make it go
away. Suckers - who think that drug prohibition somehow protects children.
Suckers - who think that giving criminals control of dangerous drugs
somehow protects children and our society.
Suckers - who think that they live in a free country even thought the
United States is the most incarcerated nation in the history of human
civilization.
