Hoschton cyclist killed in Winder accident

We are going to continue to see fatal accidents on Hwy. 53 until DOT decides to make this highway safer. I have lived off this highway for over 20 years. Way too many accidents. I have tried repeatedly to get DOT to make the center lane a turning lane. They have actually told me "until someone dies they can't do anything". People have died on this road & they will continue to. I ask all concerned citizens to please write or call DOT to express your concern for this dangerous road. The transfer trucks gain speed traveling towards 85, persons trying to turn Left on Sims Road often get traped trying to turn on Sims Road if there is an oncoming car.
The road has 3 lanes & DOT should turn the center lane into a turning lane. This would have prevented several accidents. Several teenagers use Sims Road as their route to high school. Contact our State Representatives as well as DOT. I would appreciate any concerned citizens taking time to help make this highway safer by contacting DOT & our State Representatives.

I am so sorry about your son. I will continue to do everything I can to persuade DOT to help make this highway safer.I just spoke with them again yesterday; they now say there is not enough of us being affected by this highway to merit DOT turning the middle lane into a turning lane. I am asking everyone that is familiar with this dangerous highway to please call or write DOT, state representatives, and Commuter Dude regarding this highway. Please ask everyone you know to join us in this fight to make this highway safer. I pray that the Lord is continuing to help you during this time of grief.
