Barrow County’s growth may be in the doldrums today following the economic downturn, but between 2007 and 2008, new census numbers say its rate of growth was the 18th fastest among counties in the United States.
The census estimates (not actual counts) suggest Barrow topped the 70,000 mark in July 2008, up 3,150 from the year before. That calculated to a 4.7 percent growth rate, which is the basis for the 18th growth position.
Whether or not those numbers will hold up once actual counts take place remains to be seen.
