In a 3-1 vote, the Auburn City Council approved an updated city charter Thursday night.
Some citizens in attendance spoke against the council approving the action since it will now be able to take on bonded debt. Citizens voted in 1997 to not allow the council this power. Mayor Linda Blechinger said this portion of the city charter violates state law and should have not been put in to start with.
