A three-vehicle wreck Wednesday morning at approximately 11:30 a.m. near Yargo Elementary School sent several people to area hospitals. One of the vehicles involved was a van reportedly transporting children.
Meanwhile, three Barrow County people were killed this week in area wrecks.
A Winder woman was killed Tuesday afternoon in a wreck on New Cut Rd. near Hwy. 53 in Braselton. The Georgia State Patrol said Maria Cabel, 54, was driving along New Cut Road when she crossed the centerline and tried over-correcting her Toyota Corolla. Cabel later crossed over Hwy. 53 and drove into a ditch, where her vehicle was overturned, according to the state patrol.
Cabel, a school teacher in Hall County, was ejected from the passenger side window, troopers said. Reports from the scene said the vehicle landed on top of the driver.
Earlier Tuesday, 22-year-old James Justin Davis of Winder died at the scene of an early-morning wreck on Carl-Cedar Hill Road near Pierce Road. Sheriff’s deputies believe he was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver and a second passenger were taken to area hospitals.
Early Sunday, 37-year-old Michael Bernard Smith of Statham was killed in a wreck on Hwy. 82 near the Barrow-Jackson county line. That wreck happened at about 12:28 a.m., when Smith’s westbound 1989 Cadillac crossed over into the eastbound lane of traffic, left the roadway, and struck several trees.
