A former teacher in Barrow County was sworn in last week as governor of North Carolina.
Gov. Beverly M. Perdue was a substitute kindergarten teacher in 1970-71 in Winder, according to her resume. However, another resume lists her as having been a kindergarten teacher at Auburn Elementary School.
Perdue later taught school in Florida and then moved into the health care industry.
Perdue was lieutenant governor for eight year before being elected governor in November. She became involved in North Carolina politics in 1986, according to published reports.
