Barrow County firefighters responded to two wood fires on Thursday.
The first was located on Thurmond Circle, near Ga. Hwy. 82 and the Barrow-Jackson county line. About 10 acres of underbrush was burning when fire crews first arrived at the scene.
“Firefighters were able to get in and protect several buildings that were in the pathway of the fire,” said Lt. Scott Dakin of the Barrow County Fire and Emergency Services. “The fire was contained with the assistance of the Georgia Forestry (Commission).”
Firefighters later responded to Tom Miller Road, south of Ga. Hwy. 316 (University Parkway), where there was a two-acre woods fire.
Again, with the assistance of the Georgia Forestry Commission, firefighters were able to gain control of the fire quickly.
“We are still in a draught and fires can quickly spread,” said Lt. Dakin. “That’s why we want to remind citizens to use caution whenever they are using a heat source outside.”
Both fire have been determined to be an accident.
