An 11-day-old Winder infant died Dec. 19 while in the care of a babysitter, family members and friends.
The death was discovered after the parents returned home and found the baby “cold and unresponsive,” according to a Winder Police Department press release.
Police went to the home at about 4 p.m.
Capt. Dennis Dorsey said in an interview Monday that the parents had legitimate reasons for being away from home. He did not release the names of the parents or the address where the infant died.
The infant’s body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Dorsey said Deputy Coroner Robby Black told him that an autopsy is standard policy when an infant dies.
