Former Barrow County District 3 commissioner Steve Worley entered a guilty plea to federal charges of bribery.
Worley, who resigned his seat on the BOC, admitted illegal conduct with a Monroe paving business during his time as the city’s Public Works Director. He worked for the City of Monroe for more than 15 years.
Worley faces up to 10 years in prison and a possible fine of $250,000. The former commissioner, a resident of Bethlehem, was indicted by a federal grand jury in April.
A special election to fill the District 3 vacancy is set for Tuesday and includes candidates Bob Loftin, Don Wildsmith, Scott Vickery and Roger Wehunt.
